FAQs

Do you train girls as well as boys?
Certainly. Some girls have been amongst our most skilful players. Girls take part in same age/ability sessions as boys.

What is the upper age limit for trainees?
The usual upper limit is 16 years, although we do make exceptions and can provide tailor-made coaching sessions for adults. There is no lower limit, but you would need to be at least 5 or 6 to benefit from the training.

What kit do I need to bring?
Just shorts and T-shirts are adequate, full football strips are not necessary. You will also need to bring boots, full-length socks and shinpads.

Are the coaching staff qualified?
The staff are qualified specifically in Matrix coaching, but also hold FA and/or UEFA coaching licences.

How long are the courses?
Each training session lasts one hour, normally on a weekday in the early evening, and the complete course runs one evening a week, over a 6-week period.

How much does each course cost?
Each course costs £30 inc VAT, which works out at just £5 per 1-hour session and represents excellent value for money. You can either pay online or by sending us a cheque.

How many players are on each course?
Usually numbers are restricted to around 16, so there is plenty of one-on-one focus. It also allows sessions to break down into 4v4 and 8v8 mini games. If there are more looking to take part, we usually set up another course.

I’m not a good footballer, can I still attend?
Yes. We cater for kids of all abilities and can promise that a 6-week Matrix course will definitely improve your ability and technique. You don’t need to aspire to become a pro footballer, just keen to improve your game.

Can parents watch children train?
Parents are welcome to watch training sessions, but children often get more from the coaching if they are not watched by family members, so it may be better to attend the beginning or end only.

Why are there no courses in my area?
Eventually, we hope to have Matrix courses in every area of the country, but at the moment we are busily finding new venues. If there are enough youngsters in your area that might attend a course and you could suggest a suitable venue, please contact us.

Are you planning any residential courses?
A residential summer course is on the agenda and we hope to find the right venue, with suitable accommodation, soon. The first week-long residential course is likely to be in the North West of England, so if you want to be kept informed, contact us.

Can I become a Matrix qualified coach?
We are keen to qualify more Matrix coaches, so they can train boys and girls the unique Matrix way. You’ll need to be at least 18 and have some coaching or advanced playing experience.
